When we had small heats of only 3 or 4, we were sometimes just sending the driver right on through the start gate without stopping. If we did 10 heats of 3 drivers, maybe we could do something like a staging box: this means that we still retain a starting line, but having it serve more as a "checkpoint" where we either wave a green flag to signal the driver coming off the oval that the coast is clear, or yellow/red the driver if there is a line of cars or the track isn't clear. Under green, the driver could just blow right on through the checkpoint, and on yellow/red, they could slow down or stop there to wait for traffic and maintain spacing. If properly executed, that may allow for the oval, turn 1, and max seat time...? Any thoughts?
