How many kids would refuse a nice $40K+ vehicle if their parents tried to give them one anyways.
Not me...gimme gimme gimme! I can pretend I am 16 even.

I didn't turn down my first car either, a beautiful cream colored ( ) 1987 Bronco II. It wasn't that old in 1992, but it wasn't what I wanted. Even if it wasn't that BMW, Merc, Audi or whatever the rich brats at my highschool had, I still took it, appreciated it and drove it. Trust me, anything is better than walking. I had to laugh at the kids whose parents blew enormous amounts of money on their cars only to have them wreck them soon after purchase. Plant HS parking lot after school was often like if Reeves Import Motorcars held a demolition derby using their finest cars on their lot. 3 & 5 series Bimmers running into one another...oh...it was grand!
