Subaru will unveil a new high-performance hybrid concept at the Tokyo motor show.
The three-door B5-TPH, or Turbo Parallel Hybrid, combines a 256bhp 2.0-litre 'boxer' engine with an electric motor.
The motor provides a power boost of around 13bhp, which when coupled with the four-cylinder petrol engine should ensure lively performance and low fuel consumption.
Subaru describes the concept as a 'crossover' car, combining coupe styling with the practicality of a hatch and the driving ability of a 4x4, while the all-wheel-drive system promises agile handling.
However, Subaru says the vehicle does not hint at future models.
