it will run... there is a rivet rattling around in the tranny case, which happens on old high mileage mkii's. i dont have a seat, but you can borrow one from my mkii golf if you want to drive it off. it does start with a fresh battery. i drove it from my buddy's house when i bought it (about 5 miles.)
