what probably happened was the water sopped any air into the engine and stalled it, but the engine didnt dead stop so water kept getting pulled in, and some I'm sure had before stalling. Same thing happened to me. Drain your oil, you'll probably see water first, then oil, do the same with the tranny fluid etc. rear diff even. Anything with a vent tube pretty much.
