I don't think that the IRS is bad. I know it has a lot of issues, but then so does the stock solid axle. The difference is that the IRS has not yet had a signifigant amount of aftermarket support. This is FINALLY starting to happen. I think over the next two or so years, we'll start to see what kind of potential the IRS truly has. This I know... In stock form, it's better for autox. With mods, the t/a and panhardbar setup is better. I think with better aftermarket support, this gap will narrow considerably to the point where it is VERY even.

That said, if you've got a stick, it's more economical to stick with it. If you've got IRS, it's got potential, but time will tell whether it's worth it to go with it...
