The 95-96 Eclipse has a longer set of headlights while the 97-99 has a little shorter set, they would fit on a 97 but you would have to get a new front bumper, so it probably just wouldn't be worth it.
Also 97-99 have a pointed end closest to the center of the car where the 95-96 are more rounded.
