if the abs light is on then ONLY the abs won't work. so if you slam on the pedal and lock up your brakes the abs will not engage. this has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the original problem he is having. also 9 outa 10 times the abs light will be on because of a bad speed sensor. they ALWAYS go bad. You should NEVER need to flush the system. the red brake light will only come on if your low on fluid or your e-brake is up. it has NOTHING to do with the condition of the brake system. +1 He's right but, if it was your speed sensor on obd1 models most times your Actual Speedometer will malfunction or jerk.
I work at Arlington Honda i see this all the time.
Its a simple fix air in brakes 5 mins to bleed, or see if you could put a damn pedal to the floor thats it !
