Heh, he already had baking soda on the metal below the carpet before I told him to do it. I had a lawn mower battery spill in the back of my car and it pooled in the back. Took me a lot of baking soda, a hose, a scrub brush, and a can of rustoleum to get it taken care of. I hate spilling stuff like that in a car.
There's only like 1/5th of the acid gone at most. I'm going to try to track down some electrolyte, if I can't find it, I'll throw some distilled water in there. It's pretty old anyway, might be time for a new one.
