USA equivalent is the cressida. We only had them until 1991. So the last chaser/mark2/cresta chassis we got here was closest to the X81 models. That chassis is known here as the MX83 cressida. In the USA they only came in automatic tranny with all sorts of luxo shit. Here's how toyota breaks down their chassis codes.
First letters are engine family ie: jz,a,m,s
Second letters are chassis family ie: a,t,x,e
third set is for generation and model designation ie: 73,81,91
In this case you're looking at an MX83. So the engine is in the "M" family in this case it's a 7mge. The Chassis is in the "X" family ie: chaser, mark2, cressida, cresta. The 83 is used to designate which model it is within the family. For instance, the jzx90, jzx91, and mx83 are all the same chassis. Chassis parts like diff, and suspension are interchangeable between the different "X" models of the same generation. But body, trim, interior, electronics etc might not be interchangeable.
There are also cars of the same family with different engines like the GX90 which is a mark2 with a 1GGE instead of the 1JZGTE. And also one engine is not limited to any chassis family. Like the MZ20 Soarer. So there are some interesting swaps you can think about, The X, A, and Z chassis families all shared engines.
Simple huh?
The coolest USDM one I know of is a guy in WA state. Here's a pic of his car:

As you can see there have been a lot of models that have interchangeable parts with the Cressida. They are IMOP one of the most overlooked cars out there.
Ok I'm done
