I would have to disagree and that is why I am looking at a Prius as a DD. I drive about 20k miles a year. I average in between 15-16 mpg burning premium gas. Giving my car the benefit of the doubt (16mpg) that equates to 1250 gallons of gas a year. Using current gas prices (~2.35/gallon) that means I spend almost $3k a year in gas.

Now if I were driving a Prius.... I'll quote lower than what the Prius gets (from what I've read) and say 50mpg burning 87 octane gas. That's 400 gallons of gas and using current gas prices (i don't know off the top of my head but i'll guess that 87 is about 20 cents less than premium so $2.15) that means I would spend about $860 a year in gas. That's quite a difference.
