There are many types of turbos out there for DSMs. It depends on what you want to do with your car. Street car or a drag car. For the street there are 16g/big 16g/super 16g/17c/Greddy 18g/19c. Power band is around 3-6k. The 19c is going to be my choice of turbo in the future when I can save up some cash. These turbos all come with an internal wastegate and spoolup fast and pull hard but they will not flow as much as a drag style turbo. Drag turbos power band are around 4.5k+. These turbos are usually 20gt3t4frank stage 3+ and other flavors of larger garret turbos. Each of these requires a external wastegate and some custome exhaust manifold and downpipe. A 20g will bolt on but it will out flow the stock manifold/02 housing which will restrict the turbos potential.
