but from your description, it wasn't cabled to anything. if a thief is planning on throwing a bike into the back of a van, a bike with disc locks is the same as a bike without one. but if it's attached to something, and it will take 5-10 minutes of work to get it unattached, most thieves would rather just pick up the bike that isn't tied down.
the cable is my most important piece of security. i don't always make sure to cover the bike, but i ALWAYS keep it cabled down when i'm not riding.
