We both have insurance so I'm not one of those people who says "fuck it, let them pay for it". But at the time, I simply could not afford to have 1/4 of my take home salary deducted for insurance which I would rarely use and if so, chances are it would not be a huge cost. It is a vicious cycle. If insurance were cheaper, more would have it and less would skip out on their bills. Yes, they have to eat, but I'm not worried about them. Nobody else in this world cares about my wellbeing so if it comes to me having an extra $150/week in my pocket or stiffing them with the bill, that's an easy choice.
