A properly built and maintained V8, especially a stock F-Body, is perfectly reliable. The only reason V8's get a bad rap is because of how much they're beaten on. Let's be honest, if you beat on any engine as much as the 'tards on this board beat on their Camaros/Firebirds/Mustangs, shit's gonna break. Need proof? Go look in the Honda Tech forum. You'll see a lot of broken 4 cylinders in there because they beat the shit out of them.

I'm running a stock 1972 half ton 350 SBC in my Camaro. The only thing I've ever done to it was a full gasket kit since the gaskets rotted from being on the stand too long. It's still on stock bearings and rings!
Its going to be your fault when I go blow 6,000 on a TA or Z28 and have to delay my Mustang project because of it, you realize this, right?

Actually, I really did think that LT1s were teh suck, and I doubt I can afford an LS1. If they're halfway decent (minus the opti, I'll replace the opti immediatly), I might just have to make my DD a V8...What kidn of fuel mileage might I be looking at with that lovely 91 octane gas that goes in them? Anywhere near a 3.4L V6 thats almost always shifting above 3.5k RPMs? I'm figuring, I have to beat on the v8 less to achieve desired acceleration and speed, so that might help?
