most 5.0 pop t5s even faster than they pop head gaskets. i won't even count how many friends i had back in the day have oil pumps lock up. and don't think of spray with a good set of heads. known about 6 people split blocks. throw in melted clutch cables with long tubes.
you may have a wonder 5.0 but you also have to remember we all used to be harder than ricer's are on there cars these days. we'd race anything just about anywhere.

My first t5 last over 2 years, in which I replaced as the whinning became accessive and I found another good deal on a t5. Mine blew a few headgaskets because of 12:1+ compression. Other than that, I've replaced a starter and alternator because they failed, but I've replaced the water pump and radiator as well because I figured I mine as well. I believe I spent less than $200 on all that stuff from advance auto parts though.
