Which one? A weak spring can also do it. If excessively weak it can allow the valve to stay open longer by not allowing the rocker to follow the cam lobe, it would get worse with rpms. Hence the compression during cranking speeds. Since the valve is lagging the cam (not following) Duh! it would allow the mixture to escape. Keep us posted. Sorry I wasn't on.
