no, you can cut down orange peel w/ a polishing compound. ive done it before. color sanding is QUICKER, yeah. but if you get the polishing compound from a body shop, its what they use to cut down the high spots. 3M makes it, they have a tan glaze, pink glaze and a white cutting compound. i used the white stuff to remove the oxidation on my supra. it definitly removes paint, because ive seen people burn thru with just this compound before.
