Most 05 600's will run with a stock liter bike from 98-00 if you have the guts to run the bike up to the limit. I just purchased a new Kawi ZX-6R which is a 636cc motor that if FI. This bike will flat out move. So the big question is how much do you want to spend on a bike you know you will drop at least once. Answer that question and the rest come easy.
actually, from the people i've talked to that have done trackdays, most prefer, or would prefer doing it on a 600. much easier turn in and much more nimble in the corners. and that's the whole point of riding a bike on a track.
i also have a 636, and it's a pure joy. it hangs just fine with older liter bikes and doesn't fade that bad against new liter bikes.
really the only advantage of a liter bike over a 600 is if you plan on doing 200 mph high speed runs.
