If american cars' engines had a shorter stroke like Japaneese cars, we could redline at 7500RPM as well, buddy. See, we make more POWER in every stroke, so we don't need a massive RPM band to haul ass - both approaches have their ups and downs. As for leaf springs, I know of a few cars that have leaf springs and will hand your precious skyline its ass.
