If you read SCC, that magazine focus's very little on drag racing - its an after thought, and they mainly use drag strip numbers to give you some common ground to relate to on acceleration. The title was used to get your attention, and surprise, it did just that. 12's is not fast for a drag car, but for a car with its design from the factory to weight under 2000lbs, and make no comprimises on handling, it adds up to a pretty serious track machine. Keep in mind a stock Elise runs 13s, so its quite a bit faster than stock. The lotus, in no way, shape, or form, was ever believed, thought or otherwise considered to be a super star in the drag arena. Why it was even brought into this conversation is beyond me.
John, the points you are trying to make would be valid in the discussion about the Elise featured in the article had the editor's not made the 1/4 mile claims on the front cover of the magazine. By doing that they opened the door and if you want to point fingers at people trying to label the car at a failed attempt at a drag car that is where the blame should be placed.
