FWIW I got the Outback running today, so far everything looks pretty good, no wobbly crank pulley, and the car runs well so I guess I got the timing belt right too. I felt a bit sketchy about this when I loaded up that keyway with red loctite yesterday, but when I felt how secure it was this morning, I don't think I'll need to be worrying about it at all. This looks to be one of the better stopgap type "fixes" I've seen.
