does upgrading the power wire from the alt to the battery really make that much of a difference

I had a yellow top in my old explorer with a 1500.1 hifonics amp and 400 watt 2 chan hifonics amp and it ran great. The only thing is at nite there was a slight headlight dim when the bass hit full blast, other than that I had no probs
