Top Certified Used
Vehicle Programs

IntelliChoice, Inc.'s annual report names the top luxury and non-luxury certified used vehicle programs.

Volkswagen and Jaguar feature the best certified used vehicle programs, according to automotive information provider IntelliChoice, Inc.
IntelliChoice, a subsidiary of PRIMEDIA, Inc., publishes annual car and truck cost guides projecting ownership expenses from the day of purchase to five years out.

The results for 2005 put Volkswagen at the top of non-luxury automakers for the first time.

Jaguar won top spot among luxury brands once again, marking the fourth year in a row that Jaguar's program placed first in the upscale category.

IntelliChoice noted there were 24 different manufacturer-sponsored certified used vehicle programs covering 29 brands in 2004. These were split among luxury and non-luxury brands, each offering a number of different benefits.

"As certified pre-owned programs continue to be a growing trend in the United States marketplace, IntelliChoice strives to provide consumers with the most up-to-date data and tools they need to find the greatest value for their money," said James Bell, Publisher of Intellichoice.

IntelliChoice ranks used vehicle certification programs based on the following criteria: car inspection process; warranty coverage; title verification; availability of special financing; roadside assistance benefits; and whether there are return or exchange policies for the used vehicles.

The warranties and inspections offered on certified used cars are some of the most appealing features to consumers. Jaguar was rated as having the best warranty among luxury car brands, while Land Rover and Infiniti tied with Jaguar for the best inspection list.

Cadillac's program was ranked second among luxury automakers, marking the first time the domestic car brand has made it into the top five.

IntelliChoice singled out Volkswagen as having the best warranty of non-luxury brands, with Mazda moving up to the second spot in a virtual tie with Honda.

The Chrysler Group (Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge) has the highest-ranked non-luxury domestic certified used car program for the third year in a row.

Ford fielded four brands in the top-scoring programs—Jaguar and Volvo in the luxury list; Ford and Mazda in the non-luxury programs.
