You know... there are so many variables in this question, I always wince when it gets asked. It's like trying to nail jello to the wall.
The only consensus I am left with after 3 years is that roughly 280WHP and below is safe and long-term reliable on the stock EJ20. There just have been far too many people with problems at 300+ for me to say otherwise. Perhaps it's tuning. Perhaps the people push the car to redline at every 1000ft of open road every single day and it just wears it out fast. I really don't know anything other than the stock pistons (ring lands) are the 1st roadblock to power.
