do you know what a dynojet is? have you ever put your "285" hp z28 on a dynojet? your car might (probably does) have close to 285 hp to the CRANK (crank being that big rotating things with rods on it with pistons on the end and something else about combustion). now that you know that much you should know that once that power is transfered thru the crank and flywheel thru the clutch, from the clutch thru tranny to the driveshaft, down the driveshaft and into the pumkin (pumpkin is a slang or jargin term for the center section of a cars rear end assmeblly) through all the gears, out your tiny axles, thru the wheels mass and onto the very edge of the tires which make a direct connection with the ground, a whole lot of that power has dissapated. its called PARASITIC LOSS. thats why there is a difference between REAR WHEEL horsepower and CRANK horsepower.
So lets say for the sake of the arguement (realistically) that your car has maybe 270 horsepower to the CRANK. After parasitic loss and some other factors (like pressure and outside temp and bs like that) you will probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of 250-260 REAR WHEEL horsepower.

Now... that company that claims their headers make 28 horsepower, they either are saying that thats 28 horsepower to the CRANK because engine dynos are usually how companies like that measure their gains (engine dynos measure crank horsepower). now we are assuming the company even TESTED their product. in reality there is no law saying that these companies have to tell you the EXACT gains you should expect from their product because they vary from car to car depending on a lotta shit. basically they can claim their headers will give you 280 hp and from the looks of it you would probably believe them

now as for the hypertech, if you use it it will screw your computer royally and you will end up getting a dyno tune to fix it so why waste the money.

as for modding the LT1 on a budget, heres an idea.. if you want to make it fast you best get a job and start saving money. there is no CHEAP or EASY way out of it.. work with cars and you will learn that yes they are fun and yes it is an EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE HOBBY. so go buy your hypertech and magical longtubes and put them on your stock 285 rear wheel hp camaro and then you will be up to 500 hp and your rear end will magically not break when you magically get traction
have a nice day
DynoJet huh? How much does that one cost to use? What is the Factory WHP for my car. Thanks for the lengthy explanation of what rods and crankshafts are. I do know all of that already. As to the crediability of Hooker about there WHP gains, you could be correct, and probably are but in the mag it said WHP not HP. And I know ur example shows 10-30 HP loss. to the WHP from HP. Seems like very little compared to how everyone else exaggerates.

They say the 02 SS is fastest Camaro Chevy ever made. back in 70s they had 350CI with 350HP on the motor, ur sayings my LT only might have 285. That comparison seems weird unless back then they used Lead Driveshafts and all?!!
