I think you are mistaken about where they go, but as long as the tire patch area is not way out of whack with the suspension geometry you will be ok.

I have 2 inch spacers on the 930 so I can use the wheels from newer porsches but all that matters is that the rubber is in the right locaton.

As long as your wheels don't hit the wheel wells I think you will be able to get by with less than a half an inch of spacing.
