trust me I used to think I was the fucking GM master, I start
working on cars and it's a humbling experience when you learn all
that information you studied doesn't mean as much as you
thought it would.

sure you can carry on a conversation about "he said, she said, I
read this and that" but can you pop the hood of a MKIII supra
and diagnose a problem, jerry rig a fan shroud (a la poppasmurf),
rebuild a turbo, fuel system diagnose, fuel component
replacement, etc.?

the most important thing I learned about working on cars, is how
to improvise, and no amount of article reading can teach you
inginuity.
