Good luck man. I closed on the 30th of November and for the past two months I've been ripping out floors, painting, sanding, caulking, you name it. Almost friggin' done but talk about a headache. My advice to you, whatever you thought it was going to cost, whatever time you thought it would take to finish it up, triple it. 
I know exactly what you mean. We
thought it would only take this weekend to strip the wallpaper downstairs. Wrong. Still have another few days left with stripping, then wash the damn walls, then prime, then paint. Ugh.
