only if you over heat while stopped is your fan clutch the problem, from the sound of it your fan clutch is working perfectly if you couldnt turn it while the motor was super hot.

sounds more like you had a cracked/leaking lower radiator hose, once the engine got to hot, it was enough to blow it, get a new hose and run it around your house. If you dont over heat you are good.

a fan clutch has gone bad when it spins freely, meaning there is no resistance to move the fan when the clutch heats up, thus no air flow through the radiator.
