Of course, you could always think of it this way: do you want to be going triple digit speeds on someone else's ragged out piece of shit that's been dropped who knows how many times?
First of all, if you're doing triple digit speeds on your FIRST bike, you need your head examined.
Secondly, there are ways to make sure the used bike you get is in good enough condition. Arsoniq- Read the FAQ stickied and do a search! One of the best rules for a noob looking for their first bike is to bring an experienced biker and someone who is mechanically inclined so they can examine the bike to ensure you get what you paid for...
Getting a new bike as a first bike is just downright silly unless you have the money to blow. You
will drop your first bike.. do you want to drop and possibly total a ~$9K bike? Or do you want to drop a $3K bike... Get the used bike for a few months and get some experience and rides under your belt, then trade up and get a new bike. Chances are if you did your homework you won't lose any money in the deal... bikes don't lose their value like cars do..
