It really depends on a bunch of things, are the heads aluminum or cast iron, how well do they flow, what shape are the piston crowns, what are the cam specs, what is the operating range of the engine RPM wise.

A high reving, big cammed, 4 valved head with efficient ports can run a bunch more timing than a flathead V8.
