He's in real good with techs and everyone at the dealership ( he's working there part time right now ).
My personal opipion is that the techs told him " the six speed is going to cost a lot of money to convert b/c almost nothing is the same ", which like I said, doesn't make much sense, b/c they just didn't wanna do it ( and being freinds with that tech in question, means that HE WOULD BE DOING THE WORK ).
The reason for wanting the swap isn't the sloppy shifter really... Its the Synos, and durability. I'm definately not a VW guy, but my friend definately is, and he told me " the six speed doesn't have anywhere near the syno problems, and its stronger ". Of course the car would be just a little faster too, due to the lower gearing, but in normal A4 Gti owner fassion, he isn't really concerned with speed...
Car has APR CHIP, 2.5'' DP and exhuast, silicone IC piping ( upgraded ), BOV, and a very short shifter...
Basiclly you guys are saying that the GLi/20 aniv. trannys will bolt right in though, right ?
Since VW is going to have to replace the tranny and he is such good friends with them all ( this dealership has replaced clutches, and brake pads under warrenty !! ), I don't see why he couldn't get them to order him a 6-speed instead of a 5-speed and just have him pay the difference in price...
