last time i checked, a year wasnt a "Long time ago"... more like... Last year?
Incase you didnt know this, Lots of weight=Slow... MK3=lots of weight... MK3+Pseudo-gullwing doors= Super Mega Mad lots of weight. which will then correlate into an equally slow vehicle. a BONE stock JZA70 with driver, full tank'o gas and a tool box (no spare) weighs in at around 3800 LBS... add your bumpin stereo, madd Tizyte "gull wing" doors, Lead-filled/bargain priced ADR wheels and you have a MK3 that easily weighs as much as a B-body GM (or Buick Roadmaster/Caprice/Impala,etc)... i feel bad for any pavement that MK3 would pass over.

You are almost as misinformed as I am! I love the Mk3, but I also love weight mods. Lets see...
Real working gullwing doors...not much weight past connecting the door to the roof, which will originally be a N/A hardtop, some permanent plexiglass type window replacement...1JZ which weighs about the same,
maybe 100lbs less than the 7M IIRC...subtract tool
box, I'll just throw a few in the glove box, carry a cell phone, and get the tire flat stuff. SubTRACT the "bumpin radio" that comes stock (because I am the only teenager that doesnt like music), subTRACT 24 lbs of unsprung weight compared to stock sawblades from the lightest wheels I could find, and I have an Mk3 that weighs at least as much as a 86.5-88, hopefully less. Not to mention, relocated much lighter battery, and anything else I can find to get rid of/move to where the rear "seats" were.
Oh, this is all in theory too, I'm not saying I'm doing this within a year, just looking over a period of 8 or so. I know someone nearby with a 95 5spd Supra that will sell me his, so I'm focusing on getting that after I settle into my JZA70
