Default DSMtalk down, possibly for good

http://www.dsmtalk.com/

I first heard of this a few weeks ago when I sent a pm to a mod asking why a thread with a review on the FP3065 wasn't working. He said they had some database problems and that he was going to bring it up again in the mod forum. A few days later, the board was down for repairs, then it was down for a few more days after a few hours of uptime, finally the message was updated, then it was down for a week, then they arrived at this message.

I hope the board doesn't go down forever, I like that board. I've seen it as sort of the comfortable middle ground between NABR and tuners. For example, lately I've been searching to determine what kind of IC will best suit my needs with moderate power goals.

On NABR you get threads talking about 2-216's, water-air coolers, straight pipes on methanol... , that sort of thing. Most of the people there are running friggin 10's or faster, so for the lame folks like me still in the 13's the discussion is often a bit too far down the power production line. NABR has the best, most advanced, and most accurate information, no doubt, but sometimes it's too advanced to answer simple questions. I search there when I'm looking for engine building information, advanced theory, information that I can take as gospel, but not for personal experiences with parts.

On tuners you get lots of threads asking a simple question like this, in fact, a search on "evo 16g fmic" came back with hundreds of threads. The problem is that though there is a lot of information, most of it is incorrect or just plain stupid information. Half of the posts in most of these threads are by assholes pulling shit out of their asses and tossing it onto the web. You get people saying things like "I think you should run a stock sidemount with water injection!" with a little thumbs-up symbol at the end, then other people disagreeing and arguing with them "Nah man, you have to buy an upgraded sidemount, I think the best one is from blahblahracing.com [their buddie's site, of course]". Of course, neither of them actually has any experience with any of this because their profiles show that they drive 1.8's with fart cans and home depot intakes. In the end the only useful info is posted by a few experienced posters, although you have to watch out as there are some real bullshitters that make their bullshit look good *cough*nos*cough*laser*.

DSMtalk was the middle ground, down-to-earth discussions on stuff more suitable for the 12's instead of the 9's, without the huge percentage of junk posts by idiots. I miss it.
