Close Gear Set
I was looking for information regarding close gear sets with turbo applications. I was trying to understand a thread I found on FA that was made along time ago but could quite grasp it. What I am looking to find out, is what is the benefit of running/swapping out your stock internals for a setup such as the OS Giken Close gear set other than OS Giken is hot shit and its damn near buller-proof from what I've read so far.
Is it with the shorter gear number will give you a taller gear or a "longer" gear? I beleive one of the posts I was reading was trying to explain that with a close gear set that 1st/2nd/3rd gear would be tall compared to stock(1st/2nd being the biggest difference over stock).
What benefit does this have with the SR applications with a redline of 7500? OR do you have to have head work and a powerband that would support the taller gears?
And what is the benefit of running a 1st thru 3rd close gear set with a stock 4th/5th gear? Is it that with alot of NA applications your powerband is greatest in 3rd gear? Where I beleive in the SR's 4th gear is key, say in the 1/4 mile or on the dyno?
