We looked at doing the t-56 but decided against it due to gearing differences and tunnel modification. The advantage of the 300z trans, if done correctly is that it fits in with no modification to the tunnel. Also, if done correctly, you can use the factory starter, slave cylinder, clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing and fork. With any of the 6 speed most of the parts have to be different and the adjustment on the clutch woill adjust far enough to accomodate the spacer being used to change the bolt pattern. Oh, also the 300z trans fits into the car better than the stock bellhousing. Trust me on that,I've swapped the transmission out in mine numerous times. After some test runs Dave -owner of
www.turbodave.com is looking at selling the upgrade and doing all fabrication in house for the setup, but that will be determined after testing this weekend.
As for the hwy, the 89-94 sr/ka trans works pretty well for that because the gears are longer and lets just say, I don't hesitate to run vets or vipers on top end
