Here are some tips.

You get what you pay for:
A maaco $300 paint job is worth just that $300. IT won;t last long, and you probably won't be happy. Orange peel, ripples, maybe even drips.

Most reputable shops charge close to $2k to completely repaint a car (same color). A color change can run around $3k.

Where should I go?
this is totally up to you. There are alot of body shops around. It's best to visit many shops, and check out their work. There are 5 main things that I would look at.
1. Is the work enviorment orderly? Is there space to move around?
2. What does the end product look like? Check out a few cars that they've painted. A good shop will never turn out a bad car. (example: A good shop ONLY does quality work. If you see a car that looks "questionable" and the shop tells you that "the owner only paid $500, so he got a $500 paint job", don't take that as an excuse.)
3. Do they offer a Gaurantee? Do they stand behind there work?
4. Do they have a proper spray booth?
5. Do you feel comfortable with this shop?

You may also want ot check with the BBB. They will let you know if a shop is honest.

either way....expect to spend some $$$. It's not cheap.
