those are the 2 main things i had to deal with.
I picked up a 1g dsm in ohio with mods and drove it all the way down here to melbourne florida in one straight shot with no problems. Now the car is running 11.0 @ 133mph stock motor with stock head(stock springs/retainers/valves) and still stock 123kmile hg and head bolts. They can be reliable. Your ignition problem was probably due to a bad ecu which is very common. Maybe the previous owner didn't take care of it? But sad to say, I do know what you mean.
