That's not the reason. Ferrari has no ownership of "GT40." I beleive you are thinking of the Ferrari GT250. The oldschool Ford GT from the 60's was always called the "GT" The term "GT40" was a slang name given by the Ford drivers and engineers because of it's height. The original car from ground to roofline is a mere 40 inches. Today the new GT is taller and the term GT40 did not apply.
