Eagle is getting their materials from Asia which is crap as compared to other places where raw materials can be bought. Of course it is much cheaper so that is one reason for doing it. They also are having a hard time properly nitriding their cranks from what I have heard and Robert his witnessed first hand.
I discovered this while doing all of my research for my new motor. My very well known and respected engine builder Robert Fulco also gave me the same story before I told him what I had found out. He said he will not even work on the newer Eagle cranks anymore because the metal falls off in chunks when you try to do custom work on them. And since he helped Dodge develop / build their motor when they returned to NASCAR a few years ago and also built the Scranton Brothers motors I have no reason to doubt him.
Maybe the DSM guys are using older pieces made form the better material (usually U.S. made) or are not doing some of the custom work he is doing, hard to tell. But he told me not to bring him a Eagle crank. So I am not going to even bother asking about the rods and assume they are made from inferior product as well.
Go to there company website and look how many time you see the words "improved" "guaranteed", etc, etc.. This should clue you in that they have been catching flack and hopefully they have improved their product but I have my doubts.

I am going with a off the shelf upper end Scat crank that Robert is going to massage to his liking. I have not decided on rods / pistons yet.
