Sources at Roush have told BlueOvalNews that they have been working on an array of different engines for the upcoming Ford GT40. While Ford has shown the GT40 packing a 5.4L V8 engine engineers familiar with the program said that a 6.8L V10 and a 6.0L V12 are also being considered for a special GT40 model - a hint that Ford may also be planning on a GT40 race model to battle the Viper. In 1993 1995 and 2000 Ford sold a special R race version of the Ford Mustang

Curiously a Ford performance facility in Dearborn where GT40 prototypes are kept also had several V12 powered Aston Martins in the lot. The 6.0L Ford V12 engine has been around since the mid-1990s and has even been used in Lincoln prototypes.
