if you look on a vin plate

the silver plate on the firewall closer to the center on the passenger side, will look something like this

H = sohc
M = dohc


the dohc has a 400 rpm higher redline, i believe four or 500 something like that.

dohc has different body panels.

the ecu codes will be different as well.

10, 11, 78, 79 sohc

24 25 26 28 all are dohc

you can run a 5 speed ecu in an auto car and vise versa. sometimes things are a little bit wierd with em tho, not much however.
