My friend in Seattle has a '88 240DL Wagon (who doesn't in Seattle?) and it has over 180k on it with only minor work needed.
Only thing he's need to do is do normal service intervals, fix the trailing arm bushings, and replace the rusting exhaust.
His girlfriend has an early 90s 740 Turbo that was just as reliable. It even ran fine and still was driveable after getting hit from another car doing 45 while it was parked on the side of the road. of course some body work was required to get it back to nornmal, bu the insurance just totaled it because of possible safety issues.
