just take it down to a reputable machine shop and have the head cleaned up, looked over, they can mill it to bump your compression and if wanted, they could do a light p&p. If you're going with aftermarket valves, springs, retainers, etc.. bring that all down and they'll be able to assemble it all for you, make sure the valves seal, etc..
