Funny, but my car also sat for about 6 months after it was put in. I was waiting for Tune Tech to help me finish some projects and the car just sat in his shop. Maybe that's the key... Don't let a spec sit.... 
Any ways, I am currently using the King Cobra clutch in both of my cars. So far, the Cobra is doing the job and doing it well.
I was just going to suggest the King Cobra. Craig ran that in his '89 with the 306, x-cam, some insanely ported TFS heads, etc. That car made a lot of power and he didn't have one problem with the King Cobra.
