Mind boggling question of the evening:
Previous owner blocked off the EGR, so I decided to make use of the free space by fabricating a blockoff plate with a vacuum bung for my BOV. Instead of just letting the old EGR vacuum line just hang there, I decide to trace it to its origin and remove it all together.
So, I trace it back over to the passenger side strut tower. It connects to a plastic connector thingy, which in turn converts into a larger rubber vacuum line and then splits into two seperate lines. One line splits to the vacuum "tree" back on the driver's side, while the other goes to this contraption looking device bolted to the passenger side strut tower. There are no other vacuum lines leading anywhere else in this particular series of vacuum lines...they just go to the contraption and to the vacuum "tree".
So this device looks like some sort of sensor, perhaps maybe some sort of primitive DPFE sensor designed back in the days of yore. I'm thinking since the EGR has been unhooked for so long, this sensor serves no purpose. So I'm thinking I can remove the sensor or whatever and all the misc vacuum lines.
Does anyone have any idea what the heck this thing does? Do you think the car will suffer any ill effects from removal? It is almost 1am...I'm tired and buzzed...did this post even make any sense?
