I think he meant 1 and 5/8" diameter not anything about thickness. And that is fine but a crx is pretty light. I believe SCCA is 1.5" and I forget the thickness.
VITO, you guys carry Chromoly tubes. I need probably somewhere around 100' and about 60 square inches of 1/8" plate. Got two cages to build this summer.
