most people with driver's licenses can drive in a straight line without a problem (if they are sober), torque steer is totally different, i will give you that. i still think that it takes more technique to consistantly take corners at higherspeeds rather than driving in a straight line and making corrections for torque steer. a professional drag race wont last more than a few seconds. a professional track event will take a longer time span.
bottom line: consistancy for a drag racer means that every heat you dont hit a wall or your opponent for a few seconds. you dont have to worry about your opponent cutting you off at all because he (or she) has to stay in his (or her) lane nor do you have to worry about your opponents position on turns.
in the track events, there are no lanes and you have to worry about your opponents positions, drafting, turns, and even portions of the track that are straight.
it takes talent to perform well on both track and drag. i just think that the track racers have and advantage over the drag racers. all track racers can drive fast in a stright line, not all drag racers can take fast runs.
