Stock Vs. stock, The blacktop is better in every aspec - It has higher C/R (11 vs 10.5), bigger throttle bodies, lightend but still strong internals, But the biggest atvantage is it is map sensored so you can run open throttle bodies!
Even with all that, it only adds up to an additional 5hp over silver top.
If you plan on keeping it stock, blacktop is better, but if running a aftermarket ecu (converting to map) either one would suit just fine. They say the silvertop internals are more stout, so would probably be better suited if your going for lots of HP.
I've also heard about that some of the blacktops are failing early -
Look at this
As for super/turbocharging - both have too high of C/R stock, but either can be fitted with 8.1C/R pistons from the early 4agze (mr2 motor) or 8.9C/R from the later 4agze (we never got these here). Both are forged and the 8.9C/R version is ceramic coated! The silvertop is probably a better choice for forced induction.
So, the silvertop is cheaper and may be more reliable, more stout, better suited for forced induction, and easily and cheaply converted to map with a megasquirt. so for my money I'd go with a silvertop...
